The Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation was formed in 1963 by Bruno Walter’s daughter, Lotte W. Lindt, and several of his friends to perpetuate and honor the memory of Maestro Walter and to continue his lifelong interest in, and support of, musicians. Over the past forty-five years the Foundation has established a scholarship program for conducting students at the Juilliard School in New York, provided cash awards to winners in the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions, and helped numerous arts-related institutions with operating support, including Carnegie Hall, the New York Philharmonic and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, to which the Foundation donated Maestro Walter's papers and other archival materials (see Links). A new grant program, the Bruno Walter Assistant Conductor Chair, which was launched in 2003, focuses support for those United States orchestras and opera companies that offer exemplary mentoring and meaningful hands-on learning opportunities for emerging conductors (see Grant Programs). The Foundation Board of Trustees includes: Craig M. Shumate, President The Foundation’s federal employer identification number is: 13-6174444. The Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
